Our Pastor

  Rev. Mark Abbott, Ph.D.

Barnett Memorial UMC welcomed Dr. Mark Abbott as our new pastor as of July 15, 2018. He is an ordained elder from the Northwest Texas Conference. He came to the Orlando area due to his position as Director of Hispanic Distributed Learning at Asbury Theological Seminary in their Orlando campus.
Dr. Abbott and his wife Diane served as missionaries with the General Board of Global Ministries of the UMC for 27 years. They served in Monterrey, Mexico from 1990-1995 at the Seminario Juan Wesley of the Methodist Church of Mexico. They also served in Madrid, Spain from 1987-1990, 1996-2014. In Spain Mark was professor of New Testament and Academic Dean of the oldest Protestant seminary in Spain, the Seminario Evangélico Unido de Teología (SEUT-United Evangelical Theological Seminary). The seminary is part of the Spanish Evangelical Church, a partner church with the United Methodist Church and member of the European Methodist Council.
Mark served as pastor in Plains, TX from 1981-1983. He also was pastor of the Community Church of Madrid from 1987-1990. This is an international, English-speaking congregation.
